Profile

My research interests include new generation of cement-based construction materials particularly high performance and self-compacting concrete, new cements (Silica Fume, Fly Ash, Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag, Metakaoline), viscosity and workability modifying admixtures, durability and microstructure of concrete, pressure of concrete on formwork and application of Fracture Mechanics to concrete.

1999 - July "The Professor K. C. Rockey Memorial Prize" for the best research student in Civil Engineering, Cardiff University.
1994 - February Ranked as the first of the Republic of Turkey in Construction Teaching subject.
1994 - February Awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Education (Turkey) for M. Phil. and Ph. D. degrees in Civil Engineering in the U.K.
1993 - June Graduated (B. Sc.) as the first of the Faculty of Technical Education, Firat University, Turkey.
1989 - September Awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Education (Turkey) for B.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering Education.
1988 - May Received the second award in Chess Tournament in the Province of Kayseri, Turkey.

Research/Teaching Fellow in Concrete Technology Unit, Division of Civil Engineering, University of Dundee, Dundee, United Kingdom. Responsibilities include:

  • Obtaining, co-ordinating and implementing funded research projects. Currently two funded research projects (Formwork Pressure Project-36 months and Web-based Project to deliver technical guidance to the construction industry throughout UK-30 months) are available.
  • Supervising research students. Currently one PhD, one MSc students.
2002 - 2004 Tutor of Civil Engineering Materials and Environment Laboratory-2 course to third year students in Civil Engineering, University of Dundee (Autumn semesters).
2002 - 2004 Supervised three Honours year projects in concrete technology area.
2002 - 2003 Supervised two Master of Science (MSc by Research) students in concrete technology area. .
2001 - 2002 Visiting Scientist in Civil Engineering, Cardiff University, UK (September/01 – April/02).
2000 - 2001 Tutor of Engineering Analysis to first year students in Cardiff University (Autumn semester).
1993 - 1994 Lecturer in the Department of Construction, Sinop Technical College , Turkey. Instructed several courses including Construction Materials, Applied ConstructionTechnology, Building Sciences, Surveying, Technical Drawing. Responsilities included preparation of lecture materials, demonstration of construction techniques, examinations and marking and organising field trips.
1993 - 1994 Site Supervisor (part-time) for a local construction company.

Made extensive use of the following softwares/programming languages: Microsoft Products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Front Page and Internet Explorer), Dreamweaver, Html, Corel Products (Corel Draw, Corel Photo Paint), MathCad, LUSAS (Finite Element Applications in Civil and Structural Engineering), FORTRAN.
